Tear Trough Filler: The Secret to Looking More Rested and Refreshed

Tear Trough Filler: A Subtle Approach to Under-Eye Rejuvenation
Do you sometimes feel that the area beneath your eyes looks more tired than you actually feel?
Under-eye hollows and shadows are very common and can be influenced by genetics, facial anatomy and the natural ageing process.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with having them.
But if you would personally like the under-eye area to appear smoother or more refreshed, tear trough filler may be one option worth discussing.
The important part is determining whether filler is actually the right treatment for your individual anatomy.
What Is Tear Trough Filler?
Tear trough filler is a dermal filler treatment that can be used to soften the appearance of hollowness beneath the eyes.
Small amounts of hyaluronic acid-based filler are carefully placed to improve the transition between the lower eyelid and the cheek.
In suitable patients, this can reduce shadowing and create a smoother, more refreshed appearance while still preserving the natural character of the face.
The aim is not to make you look like somebody else.
It is simply to make a subtle change to an area if that is something you would like for yourself.
Is Tear Trough Filler Right for Everyone?
No — and this is an important part of our approach.
Not every under-eye concern is caused by volume loss.
Dark circles can also be related to pigmentation, visible blood vessels, skin quality or genetics. Puffiness and true under-eye bags may have different causes altogether, and in some cases filler may not be the most appropriate treatment.
Tear trough filler may be considered for people who have:
Noticeable under-eye hollowness
Shadowing caused primarily by loss of volume
A defined groove between the lower eyelid and cheek
Suitable anatomy for treatment following assessment
A preference for a non-surgical approach
A consultation is essential because sometimes the best treatment is not tear trough filler at all.
Why Some Clients May Need Mid-Cheek Filler First
The under-eye area does not exist in isolation.
The mid-cheek provides structural support beneath it, and loss of volume or support in this area can make the tear trough appear deeper.
For some patients, treating the tear trough directly without addressing the cheek first may not produce the most natural-looking result.
After assessing your facial anatomy, we may therefore recommend adding subtle support to the mid-cheek area before considering the tear trough itself.
For other patients, no cheek filler may be necessary.
The treatment plan should always be based on your individual face, rather than following the same formula for everybody.
What to Expect from Your Consultation and Treatment
At our aesthetics clinic in Portsmouth, treatment begins with a detailed consultation and facial assessment.
We look at:
The degree and cause of under-eye hollowing
Mid-cheek support
Skin quality
Puffiness or fluid retention
Existing under-eye bags
Your facial proportions
Your expectations and what you personally hope to change
If tear trough filler is appropriate, we will discuss the procedure, potential benefits, limitations, risks and aftercare before you decide whether you would like to proceed.
And if we believe filler is not the right treatment for you, we will tell you.
For us, a good consultation is just as much about knowing when not to treat as it is about knowing how to treat.
How Long Can Tear Trough Filler Last?
Longevity varies significantly between individuals.
Factors such as the product used, anatomy, metabolism, previous treatments and the amount of filler placed can all affect how long the result remains visible.
Many patients may see results lasting approximately 9–12 months or longer, but this should never be treated as a guarantee.
The under-eye area should also be treated conservatively. More filler does not necessarily mean a better result.
Our Philosophy on Under-Eye Aesthetics
We believe aesthetic treatments should never begin with the message that there is something wrong with your face.
Under-eye hollows, shadows and changes with age are normal.
You may decide that you would like to soften them.
You may prefer another treatment.
Or you may decide to do absolutely nothing.
All of those choices are valid.
If you choose treatment, our aim is to preserve your individuality and work with your existing features rather than trying to create a completely different face.
The goal is subtle:
Still you — simply with the change that you chose for yourself.
